about
Okay, so I wrote a song.
It’s called “(It Ain’t) Normal.”
This song began as sort of an exercise, but it ended up being about... you know, these fucked up and frightening times we’re currently living in, how the days are long and perseverance is hard but not impossible, how we can all sort of figure out ways to navigate through it... all that shit... The parts about taking your time, not moving so fast, trying to stay strong for your other... They’re like these little messages I keep repeating to myself... It seems to do the trick when I let it...
Anyway... I have no real gear at our house for the time being, so I recorded the song on my phone by the window at the bottom of the stairs, and now it’s available to purchase on Bandcamp for whatever price you’d like to pay, as long as it’s at least a dollar... All of the proceeds will go toward the NJPRF (New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund)... If it’s Jack-approved, then it’s a solid move...
And rather than assemble traditional artwork to go with the song, I’ve instead made the words the cover, as I am strongly encouraging anyone else out there with any instruments, any kind of recording setup and a Bandcamp page to record their own version of the song, post it and donate the proceeds to a charity of their choice... I know it’s not a masterpiece, like “Blowin’ In the Wind” or anything... I just want to contribute and this is the best way I know how to do that... The only way, really... Sure, I might get a tiny kick from hearing other folks cover my song (a scenario I simultaneously DREAD), but really it’s all about strength in numbers, folks.
If you’re not up for it right now, maybe you’re not feeling well or not feeling particularly creative at the moment (or recreative for that matter), that’s understandable... But at the very least, if you could please just do me a small courtesy and try to spread the word on this? I’d be much appreciative... I just really want all of this to stop... We all do.
Thank you, friends... Stay healthy and cheers.

PS... This was all Stacy’s idea, by the way... She’s the brains of the operation, and I’m just her little princess.
lyrics
When the world's fallen apart
Don’t let it break yr heart
Cause this ain’t normal
No, it ain’t normal
And when nothin goes yr way
Don’t let it send you on a sway
This ain’t normal
None of this is normal
Take yr time
you’ll find you’ve got
Nothin but time
These days
These long, long days
It’s all we have for now
When the sunshine turns to pain
Try not to let it make you rain
This ain’t normal
None of this is normal
Take yr time
Don’t move so fast cuz
We gotta make it last
For each other
We’ll get together soon
Underneath some other pink moon

Deftly mixing feminism with trenchant humor, this work of art reaches out to remind us we’re well into the 21st century now—time to act like it. The world already has 50 gazillion songs, films, and books told repeatedly from the male gaze. It’s time for more offerings like this and (far) less of the usual systemic nonsense, s’il vous plait. desular
